Cattails
The cattail is a plant many people have seen but do not know a lot about it. Cattail is a important part of my food chain. It gets its energy from the sun and is a food to many animals.
Fun Fact
Believe it or not, some bog plants eat meat! They trap insects for food. The Sundew plant catches insects in its sticky leave just like fly traps.

This flower is called the purple loose-strife.You will easily spot large clumps of these purple or reddish flowers growing next to streams, lakes, marshes, in wet meadows, and roadside ditches in the late summer. Purple loose-strife, a beautiful garden plant with an aggressive nature, was first introduced into North America in the early 1800s. The plant was sold in North Dakota by its genus name Lythrum for at least 50 years. Purple loose-strife invades marshes and lake shores, replacing cattails and other wetland plants.
