The American grassland is a big patch of land. It is a grassy and hot patch of land. The main grasses in this biome are blue grama and buffalo grass.

Animals

A Ferruginous Hawk
A Ferruginous Hawk
The Ferruginous Hawk is one of the few birds that live in the American grassland. It has short, sharp beak. It eats the snakes that slither around.
A Meadowlark
A Meadowlark
The Meadowlark is one of the few birds that live in the American grassland also. It is yellow, black, white, and a little bit of brown. (Shown on picture to the left).

This is a picture of two small prairie dogs playing. The average prairie dog is brown with black eyes. These animals are very smart when it comes to hiding,

Kangaroo and it's baby
This is an American grassland kangaroo, this kangaroo is a marsupial. A marsupial is a an animal that carries it's young in a pouch. These animals are brown and have black eyes like the prairie dogs, except for the kangaroos can be different colors.

Ironweed
The iron weed blooms in the summer every year.
It is purple and have white long stem like sticks that stick out of the middle. (As you can see on the left).
It grows all over the American grassland.

Joe Pye Weed
The Joe Pye weed is like the iron weed because it grows any where in the American grassland. It is purple, purple, and more purple. The Joe Pye weed is not actually a weed it is a flower just as the iron weed.

Milkweed
The Milkweed is a flower that grows in the summer like the other flowers in the American grass land. This flower is a beady looking flower. It is called Milkweed because when you break the stem or leaf it has a milky white liquid comes out.

Queen Ann's Lace
This Queen Ann's Lace is really only blooms in the American grassland in between May and October. Some people say that it smells and taste like carrots. This flower invades dry areas like the American grassland.
